MMP2 Activation

MMP2_activation

Exosomes deliver SRC, which phosphorylates TIMP2, enabling the interaction between proMMP2 and TIMP2. Exosomes are blue and contain proteins and RNAs. Proteins secreted through the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi migrate in the orange vesicles. TIMP2 interacts with MMP14 at the cell surface. Phosphorylation of TIMP2 by extracellular c-SRC enhances the interaction between proMMP2 and TIMP2, enabling the activation of MMP2, which degrades extracellular matrix proteins. Credit: Nancy R.
