This snapshot of the genomic variations in the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 is from “Genomic epidemiology of novel coronavirus – Global subsampling” and represents information from 6 May 2020. The left side shows the variations in the sequences of the genome of the virus isolated from individual patients. The first sequenced virus is represented in the lower left corner and each circle on the diagram represents the changes in the genome from a specific patient. The y axis is time. Each color represents a different country and matches the countries coloring shown on the right. At nextstrain.org/ncov, readers can watch an interactive version showing how the different variants appeared in different countries over time. Readers can also mouse over each circle and see how divergent the virus sequence is from the reference virus sequence. Note that the colors do NOT correspond to strains. The amount of divergence increases both along the y axis and along the x axis.
