Neural stem cell niches. In the brain, neural stem cells are found in the subventricular zone and the subgranular zone of the brain. The subventricular zone is at the lateral ventricle and the subgranular zone is at the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus. The neural stem cells (NSCs) are located in vascular niches in these regions of the brain.
